DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that individuals who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
