DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehabilitation centers are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
