DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but usually in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated later on. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
