DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
