DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehab centers are generally there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
