DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to treatment either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
