DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehab due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This will truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
