DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high later on.
