Native American and Alaska Native people tend to have significantly higher rates of substance abuse then other racial groups. Native Americans and Alaska Natives may receive treatment within a traditional alcohol and drug rehab facility if rehabilitation is provided in their own language, or take advantage of facility that has been designed exclusively to treat these clients in their own language exclusively. Drug and alcohol rehab programs that provide treatment in Native American or Alaska Native Languages provide either a conventional approach like treatment programs based off of the 12-step method, or there are drug rehabilitation programs with treatment programs using their language which offer a more holistic and alternative approach.
