DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation centers are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while under the influence down the road.
