DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in alcohol and drug rehabilitation due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use.
