DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out from the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use.
