Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of drug treatment program because of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will happen for example if someone is found guilty of driving under the influence or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related offense which has led the judge to think that the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in an alcohol and drug rehab program as a criminal justice client, however, if this option is ordered through the court it is wise that the individual do everything they can to take full advantage of this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences can be entirely eliminated or lessened when the individual succeeds in rehab and completes the drug treatment program which has been ordered for them. First-time offenders will be the most probable criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients that do take part in rehabilitation in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to time in jail or receive other penalties. In the end, it saves a legal court system both time and money when criminal justice clients receive effective rehabilitation.
