DUI/DWI clients who're involved in alcohol and drug treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug rehab as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders may be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use when they drive while intoxicated later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
