DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be ordered to rehabilitation either instead of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been verified that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have much better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the future.
