DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out from the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
