DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab centers are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that people who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This could truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
