DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab centers are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution for the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
