DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment centers are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have much better odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This may truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while intoxicated in the foreseeable future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
