DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehab due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehabilitation either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their substance abuse. This will certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use if they drive while under the influence in the future. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
