DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in alcohol and drug treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug and alcohol rehabilitation as part of a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
