Criminal justice clients are those who are in any type of drug treatment facility as a result of alcohol or drug related crime. This will happen for example if a person is convicted of driving under the influence or DWI, or any other type of drug related crime which has led the court to believe the individual has any type of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in a drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered by the court it is strongly advised that the individual try everything they can to get the most from this chance. Most of the time, other penalties and consequences might be completely eliminated or lessened if the individual does well in rehab and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that is ordered for them. New offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients that take part in rehab in lieu of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to prison time or similar consequences. In the long run, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
