DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been verified that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their substance abuse should they drive while intoxicated in the future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
