DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment centers are generally there on their own accord, but more often than not in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This will truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their substance abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the foreseeable future. This is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
