Criminal justice clients are those who are in any sort of drug and alcohol rehab program because of a drug or alcohol related offense. This can occur for example when someone is found guilty of a DUI or DWI, or any other kind of drug related criminal offense that has led a legal court to think that the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of taking part in an alcohol and drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered by the court it's well advised that the individual try everything they can to take full advantage of this opportunity. On many occasions, other penalties and consequences may be entirely eliminated or lessened if the individual succeeds in rehab and completes the drug treatment center that is ordered for them. First time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients that do experience treatment in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to incarceration or similar consequences. In the end, it saves the court system both money and time when criminal justice clients receive effective rehabilitation.
