DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol rehab programs are generally there on their own accord, but usually in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to enable them to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while drunk or high down the road. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
