DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehab as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either instead of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
