DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are generally there on their own accord, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment due to a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could possibly be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse should they drive while drunk or high later on. It's a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
