Criminal justice clients are people who are in any kind of alcohol and drug rehabilitation facility because of a drug or alcohol related offense. This will happen for example when someone is found guilty of drunk driving or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related criminal offense that has led the court to believe that the individual has any type of drug or alcohol use issue. Not every person has the option of getting involved in a drug treatment center as a criminal justice client, but when this option is ordered from the judge it really is wise that the individual do everything they can to get the most from this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences could be completely eliminated or lessened in the event the individual does well in treatment and finishes the drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that has been ordered for them. First time offenders are the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been verified that criminal justice clients that do take part in treatment instead of other penalties have much lower recidivism rates than people who find themselves ordered to time in jail or receive other penalties. Eventually, it saves the court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective treatment.
