DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are generally there by their own choice, but generally in drug treatment due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders could possibly be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab as an alternative to being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use.
