Criminal justice clients are individuals who are in any type of alcohol and drug treatment program due to a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This can occur for example when someone is convicted of drunk driving or DWI, or for any other kind of drug related criminal offense that has led the judge to think the individual has any kind of substance abuse issue. Not every person has the option of taking part in an alcohol and drug rehab facility as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered through the judge it is wise that the individual do everything they are able to to get the most from this chance. In many cases, other penalties and consequences might be entirely eliminated or lessened when the individual does well in rehabilitation and completes the drug and alcohol treatment program that has been ordered for them. First time offenders would be the most probable criminal justice clients because it has been determined that criminal justice clients who do take part in treatment in place of other consequences have much lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. Ultimately, it saves the court system both money and time when criminal justice clients receive powerful rehabilitation.
