Dual diagnosis is a circumstance in which two independent disorders are present, and most typically describes a co-occurring drug or alcohol use and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis will help a person that may not have been capable of being helped before, put an end to drug abuse because they can be properly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder could have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or treated incorrectly which could have triggered and led to their substance abuse problems. Establishing the truth that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not only helps establish a highly effective treatment plan for them, but may also help clients better know what caused their drug abuse and the way to prevent it later on. Handling dual diagnosis may be a more extensive process than a typical drug rehab program, and people with a dual diagnosis might need to participate in a substantial aftercare program that might include appropriate medical support as well as further rehab services. Being diagnosed with co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the individual will need to be medicated through out their lives either, and in reality many individuals with a dual diagnosis experience much better results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are utilized.
