DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehab as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could possibly be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug and alcohol treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these problems and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse.
