Dual diagnosis can be a circumstance in which two independent disorders exist, and most typically denotes a co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorder. A dual diagnosis may help someone who may not have been able to be helped before, put an end to substance abuse because they can be correctly diagnosed and helped. Their mental health disorder may have been misdiagnosed, not diagnosed at all, or treated incorrectly which could have prompted and resulted in their substance abuse issues. Establishing the reality that someone is actually a dual diagnosis client not just helps establish a highly effective treatment course for them, but can also help clients better understand what triggered their substance abuse and the way to prevent it in the future. Handling dual diagnosis might be a more extensive process than the usual typical drug rehab program, and people with a dual diagnosis might need to take part in a substantial aftercare program which might include appropriate medical support along with further rehabilitation services. Being identified as having co-occurring disorders doesn't mean that the person must be medicated for the rest of their lives either, and in reality lots of people with a dual diagnosis experience more effective results when treated holistically and when alternative treatment solutions are employed.
