DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but usually in drug and alcohol treatment as part of a mandated order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation instead of being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better chances of staying out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which set off their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their drug abuse when they drive while intoxicated down the road. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
