DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug rehab programs are either there by their own choice, but generally in alcohol and drug treatment as part of a mandatory court ruling. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders may be ordered to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution to the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be impacted by their substance abuse whenever they drive while under the influence down the road. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
