DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in alcohol and drug rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders may be required to go to rehabilitation either instead of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these problems in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This may truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while under the influence in the foreseeable future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
