DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the courts than those people who are fined, ordered to incarceration, etc. In drug rehab facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse.
