DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment facilities are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug treatment due to a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically initial offenders may be required to go to rehab either in lieu of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from rehabilitation as an alternative to being punished for their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse alcohol and drugs, in order to address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug or alcohol use whenever they drive while intoxicated later on.
