Criminal justice clients are people who are in any kind of drug and alcohol treatment program as a result of alcohol or drug related criminal offense. This can occur for example if a person is convicted of drunk driving or DWI, or any other kind of drug related offense that has led the court to believe that the individual has any type of drug abuse issue. Not everybody has the option of getting involved in a drug and alcohol rehab center as a criminal justice client, but when this approach is ordered by the court it is strongly advised that the individual try everything they are able to to benefit from this opportunity. In many cases, other penalties and consequences may be completely eliminated or lessened in the event the individual does well in treatment and completes the alcohol and drug rehabilitation program that has been ordered for them. First-time offenders would be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been proven that criminal justice clients that take part in treatment in lieu of other consequences have significantly lower recidivism rates than those who are ordered to jail time or receive other penalties. Ultimately, it saves a legal court system both time and expense when criminal justice clients receive effective rehabilitation.
