DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug rehab facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in alcohol and drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders could be required to go to treatment either in place of other consequences or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients can benefit greatly from rehab instead of being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for substance abuse issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have greater odds of remaining out from the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their drug abuse. This can truly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be affected by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated later on.
