DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in alcohol and drug treatment facilities are either there on their own accord, but usually in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either instead of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug abuse issues as opposed to other penalties being forced upon them have much better chances of staying out from the courts than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In alcohol and drug treatment facilities DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to enable them to address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be impacted by their substance abuse if they drive while intoxicated later on. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
