DUI/DWI clients that are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are either there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug and alcohol rehabilitation due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, particularly initial offenders might be ordered to rehabilitation either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being forced upon them have far better chances of remaining out of the courts than those who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances inside their lives which prompt their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not only the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
