DUI/DWI clients who're taking part in drug and alcohol rehab facilities are generally there by their own choice, but most of the time in drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be required to go to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the court system. It has been established that individuals who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues instead of other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of staying out of the court system than people who find themselves fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities DUI/DWI clients can ascertain why they abuse drugs and alcohol, so that they can address these issues and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances in their lives which prompt their drug or alcohol use. This can truly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while drunk or high down the road.
