DUI/DWI clients that are involved in alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities are either there by their own choice, but generally in drug and alcohol rehab due to a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially first-time offenders could be required to go to rehabilitation either in lieu of other penalties or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehabilitation rather than being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that people who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as opposed to other penalties being enforced upon them have greater odds of staying out from the court system than those who are fined, ordered to jail time, etc. In drug treatment programs DUI/DWI clients can determine why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these problems and find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their substance abuse. This could certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse if they drive while under the influence in the future. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
