DUI/DWI clients that are taking part in drug treatment programs are either there on their own accord, but generally in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandated court order. DUI/DWI clients, especially initial offenders might be ordered to rehab either in place of other consequences or as part of their sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment instead of being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues as an alternative to other penalties being enforced upon them have far better odds of staying out of the court system than those who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug and alcohol rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these problems in order to find resolution to the actual situations and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug or alcohol use. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those who may be impacted by their substance abuse should they drive while under the influence down the road. It is a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
