Criminal justice clients are people who are in any kind of drug treatment program as a result of a drug or alcohol related criminal offense. This will occur for example if a person is convicted of a DUI or DWI, or any other kind of drug related offense which has led the court to believe that the individual has any sort of substance abuse issue. Not everyone has the option of taking part in an alcohol and drug treatment program as a criminal justice client, however, if this approach is ordered from the court it is wise that the individual do everything they are able to to benefit from this opportunity. Oftentimes, other penalties and consequences could be completely eradicated or lessened when the individual succeeds in rehab and finishes the drug rehab center which has been ordered for them. First time offenders will be the most likely criminal justice clients because it has been established that criminal justice clients who do experience rehab in place of other penalties have significantly lower recidivism rates than those who find themselves ordered to incarceration or similar consequences. In the long run, it saves a legal court system both time and money when criminal justice clients obtain effective rehabilitation.
