DUI/DWI clients who are involved in drug and alcohol treatment programs are generally there by their own choice, but more often than not in drug rehab due to a mandatory order from the court. DUI/DWI clients, particularly first-time offenders could be required to go to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from rehab rather than being punished because of their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been established that those who are treated for drug abuse issues rather than other penalties being enforced upon them have much better chances of staying out of the court system than those who find themselves fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, to be able to address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances within their lives which trigger their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but those that may be affected by their drug abuse whenever they drive while drunk or high in the future. This is a real second opportunity for DUI/DWI clients.
