DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders might be ordered to treatment either in lieu of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients may benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for their crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been proven that those who are treated for substance abuse issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out from the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to prison time, etc. In drug treatment centers DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse drugs and alcohol, to be able to address these issues and find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances inside their lives which trigger their substance abuse.
