DUI/DWI clients who are taking part in drug and alcohol rehab programs are either there on their own accord, but most of the time in drug rehabilitation as part of a mandatory court order. DUI/DWI clients, specifically first-time offenders may be ordered to rehab either in place of other penalties or as a part of a sentence. DUI/DWI clients will benefit greatly from treatment as opposed to being punished for his or her crimes, and so can the judicial system. It has been determined that those who are treated for drug or alcohol use issues rather than other penalties being forced upon them have greater chances of remaining out of the court system than those people who are fined, ordered to time in jail, etc. In drug rehab programs DUI/DWI clients can establish why they abuse alcohol and drugs, so that they can address these issues in order to find resolution for the actual conditions and circumstances in their lives which set off their drug abuse. This can certainly save lives, not just the lives of the DUI/DWI clients, but people who may be impacted by their drug or alcohol use should they drive while intoxicated in the future. It's a real second chance for DUI/DWI clients.
